Since 2016, @signsofjustice has been making t-shirts and posters that advocate for familiar progressive themes such as science, reproductive rights, and diversity. They have now designed a program of non-violent resistance called The Majority Project. It is a simple form of resistance, requiring no more than your signature on a postcard.

When polls are taken of Americans’ views on gun sales, trans rights protection, abortion access, and paths to citizenship, over 70% of respondents support each of those issues. That is why the policies and laws that Congress and the Supreme Court have favored under Trump are called extremist. They are in direct opposition to what the majority of Americans want.

The Majority Project has produced postcards that cite the polls on each issue: 86% of us support universal background checks for all gun sales, 74% support trans rights protections, 70% support safe and legal abortion access, and 70% support paths to citizenship for migrants.

You can purchase postcards from The Majority Project, citing these poll numbers (the photo shows this postcard), and mail them to your Senators and Representatives. Add your personal comments if you wish. You can order just a few for yourself, or do a bulk order for an organization or community. A link to the addresses of representatives in your state is provided on their website – easy peasy.

I’ve ordered my first batch of postcards from #TheMajorityProject. I have two Senators, as well as two Congressional representatives who were elected from this area of the state. Because these elected officials have very different records on speaking up for the four issues listed on the postcards, I am sending different messages. To those who are consistently using their voices and their power to make progress on these issues I write:

“Your work as a Senator/Representative has been brilliant. Thank you. I stand with you on these issues.”

To those who are sliding by, taking money from Big Pharma, and otherwise have tuned out the majority, I write:

“Your work as a Senator/Representative has been weak. These are four key issues to focus on. Increase the volume of your voice. Use the power of your position to effect change.”

I plan to keep sending these out every month, knowing that many other Americans are doing the same thing.  It’s the volume of mail or phone calls elected officials receive from constituents on particular issues that makes a difference,

And FYI: @signsofjustice carries a wide variety of t-shirts and yard signs as well.
